Bastille began in 2004 as an informal one-room recording spot, developing later into a location recording service, and finally settling into its current location down the hall from the famed Inner Ear Studio outside of Washington, DC. Our aim is to create a comfortable, flexible, functional, and enjoyable place to make music, providing the best and most interesting equipment available and a dedicated, open-minded engineering staff. We will resume location recording services Autumn 2017.
The studio's control room centers around a 24 channel console - an API 1608 with 1084 loaded BAE sidecar, with playback/recording through Barefoot MicroMain45 and ProAc Studio 100 monitors and Burl/Lynx conversion. Our tracking room has a focused, dry-but-lively sound with 2 storey ceilings enabling ambient micing possibilities. Two isolation rooms allow for live recording with controlled bleed. Our control room is also wired into the live room at Inner Ear, giving artists access to the legendary (and spacious) Inner Ear tracking room with our console, monitoring, and mic selection.
We are minutes outside of D.C. along 395, and walking distance from restaurants, breweries, grocery stores, and the Shirlington dog park.
We love home recording and embrace synergy between the home and professional studio - track drums here to overdub with at home, or bring a project in to mix or take advantage of our selection of keyboards or vocal mics. We welcome guest engineers by arrangement.
Bookings are made on a full-day basis (8-10 hours, including breaks) or hourly (3hr minimum typically applies; for shorter sessions please contact for scheduling availability.) Load in, load out, and any file transfers or bounces are to be included within the booked time; please plan accordingly. A 50% deposit is required to hold dates, which may be refunded until 72 hours before scheduled session start. While we do our best to maintain a reasonable archive of recent work, we can hold no liability for data left on our systems beyond project completion or through extended pauses in work. Please contact us to discuss your project and rates.
